Churches and other sensitive buildings

Maintaining an acceptable relative humidity level in a building by regulating the heating only costs 5 times as much energy as using a dehumidifier.

Energy efficient moisture management of sensitive buildings

  • Being able to maintain a low temperature in the building without the risk of moisture-related damage.
  • Easy installation with no conversions or ventilation pipes
  • Connected to building control system or working independently against set point value

Airwatergreen dehumidification technology makes it possible to reduce energy consumption in buildings that are not in continuous use by reducing heating, without risking moisture damage and expensive restorations.

Without a dehumidifier:

  • Do you sometimes have to heat an already hot church in the summer?

  • Do you need to keep the church heated all year round to avoid moisture damage?

Maintaining an acceptable relative humidity level in a building by only regulating the heat costs 5 times as much energy as using a dehumidifier, according to a study by Uppsala University that can be read here (in Swedish).

A dry and cold building is an efficient and climate-smart building!

In 2018, the Diocese of Lund published a report with recommendations for the indoor climate in churches (in Swedish).

Many buildings such as churches are often designed to be kept cold. Airwatergreen currently has installations in over 200 churches. This is where our product advantages come in handy;

  • Easy installation without making holes in facades
  • Low energy consumptionAirwatergreen currently has installations in over 200 churches
  • Equally effective at low temperatures
  • Possible connection to existing building management systems

Often a small dehumidifier model FLEX can handle the climate in a church building. We are happy to help you assess the moisture load and design for the best results!

Easy installation

Place the dehumidifier where you want it and set the desired moisture level. Connect to electrical supply and drain the condensed water. Then it’s just a matter of getting started. It can’t be simpler than that!

The water is removed by a hose to the nearest drain or collected in a container specially designed for the purpose.

A special trolley with a built-in 40 liter tank is available as an accessory to take care of condensation water when no drain is available. The trolley also makes it easy to position and move the dehumidifier as needed.

The dehumidifier can be set with parameters for the right humidity level or controlled against dew point or connected to an external control system via Wifi or Modbus connection.

Product selection for churches and sensitive buildings

Depending on the size of the building, one or more
FLEX
dehumidifiers may be needed. Or a REX for larger buildings.

As an example, an ordinary church, holding around 1000 m3 of air, built in stone and used from time to time and kept at 5 degrees, typically needs 1-2 FLEX units.
