Water and sanitation is a critical function of society

Investments in infrastructure are high and maintenance over time is costly. This includes everything from pumping stations to sewage treatment plants and culverts.

Why effective air treatment is critical in sewage facilities

Above ground and below ground, high humidity, condensation, and exposure to corrosive substances can cause significant operational and structural issues if left unchecked.

Key challenges

  • Corrosion and structural damage
Excess moisture accelerates rust and corrosion, especially on metal surfaces and essential equipment. This leads to frequent repairs and replacements, increasing maintenance costs.
  • Condensation and mold growth
Condensation forms on cold surfaces, creating a perfect environment for mold and bacterial growth. This not only deteriorates the facility but also poses health risks to workers.
  • Decreased air quality
Poor air quality caused by high humidity affects the work environment, leading to discomfort and potential health issues for staff.

The impact of air treatment

Proper dehumidification and air treatment offer critical benefits for sewage facilities:

  • Equipment longevity
Reduces corrosion, ensuring machinery and infrastructure last longer.
  • Lower maintenance costs
Prevents damage caused by moisture, saving time and resources.
  • Improved working conditions
Ensures a safer, healthier environment for workers.
  • Operational efficiency
Minimises disruptions and maintains reliable facility performance.

With tailored solutions from Airwatergreen, you can protect your sewage infrastructure, cut costs, and ensure sustainable operations.

Applications across sewage facilities

Efficient air treatment is critical in various areas within sewage facilities, each facing unique challenges. Airwatergreen offers tailored solutions to meet these needs, ensuring durability, efficiency, and a healthier environment.

Pump Stations

  • Challenge: condensation on cold surfaces and fluctuating air moisture levels.
  • Our solution: Compact dehumidifiers like FLEX, ideal for these environments.

Treatment plants

  • Challenge: Open water surfaces, temperature fluctuations, and high relative humidity.
  • Our solution: Powerful models like REX or even NEXT, ensuring year-round efficiency.

 Pipe galleries

  • Challenge: Underground spaces with cold pipes are prone to condensation, increasing the risk of corrosion and structural issues.
  • Our solution: The FLEX dehumidifier can be easily wall-mounted for optimal moisture control.
Use of a dew point sensor is recommended for spaces with low pipe temperatures, ensuring precise dehumidification.

Storage of polymeric materials

  • Challenge: Chemicals and materials stored in these areas require strict humidity control to maintain their integrity and usability.
  • Our solution: The FLEX dehumidifier automatically maintains the desired moisture level, preventing material degradation.

Staff rooms and storerooms

  • Challenge: Proper ventilation is essential, but it can introduce additional moisture during summer months when outdoor air is humid.
  • Our Solution: Adapt the dehumidification capacity to the assessed moisture load using FLEX or REX units.

Our solutions for sewage environments

The choice of product depends on the moisture load in the premises.

We are happy to help you estimate the moisture load. Then we measure the actual moisture level and can make a calculation that includes the dimensions of the premises and ventilation.

In small to medium-sized pumping stations, the FLEX is the natural choice. FLEX dehumidifiers can be mounted on a wall bracket or stand freely on the floor. FLEX can also be configured to act as an additional heating element with the Tempguard function.

Carbon filter BLACKBOX removes hydrogen sulphide in pumping stations. Can be combined with dehumidifiers to maintain a suitable moisture level in the pumping station but also to reduce the moisture load on the carbon filter and thus extend its life.

REX is ideally used in large pumping stations and other large spaces such as filter beds. Multiple REXs provide increased capacity.
