Background
During a large part of the year, humid air penetrates the refrigerated facilities used in the various stages of beer production and storage. This moisture condenses on cold surfaces, potentially leading to corrosion, mold, and slip hazards. Therefore, extracting moisture from the air using a dehumidifier that operates efficiently at the low temperatures typical of a cold storage room—where cold surfaces are maintained at 3–4°C—is highly beneficial.
In other words, the key is to drive dehumidification to the level required to prevent condensation on the coldest surfaces. It is also advantageous to avoid complex pipe routing and core drilling through exterior walls.
What problems did Airwatergreen's dehumidifiers solve?
As a first step, a test was conducted using 2 NEXT units to verify the moisture load assessment. The test made it possible to evaluate the amount of moisture generated inside the building as well as moisture ingress from the exterior. This moisture load typically varies throughout the year.
Based on this verification, an additional NEXT unit was installed, bringing the total to 3 units positioned at various locations within the premises. The NEXT
machines are controlled based on data from external dew point sensors, maintaining an optimal climate to prevent condensation.
Benefits of using Airwatergreen's products versus doing nothing?
Previously, a number of desiccant dehumidifiers were used, resulting in very high energy consumption. Condensation on cold surfaces in the production facility can now be avoided at a drastically lower energy consumption.
