Background

Oslo Municipality is overhauling its pipeline network. A large proportion of the facilities are currently being reviewed with a focus on energy efficiency, working environment, and automation. The capital's wastewater network consists of approximately 150 facilities located throughout the city.

To manage the climate and indoor environment inside the pump stations, heating combined with ventilation has traditionally been used. This is despite the fact that pump stations are service buildings visited only by patrolling personnel. Consequently, there is significant potential to lower the temperature to save energy. However, lowering the temperature without risking increased moisture levels requires complementary investments in dehumidification.

What problems did Airwatergreen's dehumidifiers solve?

In the spring of 2017, an evaluation of Airwatergreen's FLEX dehumidifier was conducted to assess its performance in the harsh environment of these facilities. The evaluation concluded that the indoor environment improved significantly with lower humidity, which protects equipment and components. Furthermore, the working environment became both better and safer.

In September, a second Airwatergreen FLEX dehumidifier was ordered. This time, the installation was for an uninsulated concrete pump station.

Previously, this facility relied on direct electric heating (4650W installed capacity) and ventilation, yet still suffered from moisture problems. The pump station is 40 m² and houses three pumps, each with a capacity of 160 liters of wastewater per second.
