The Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten) has granted support in the form of subsidies to Acanova AB, Airwatergreen AB and Nordamark AB for the implementation of the project "LEST is more! - Lower Energy Steam Treatment in food industry".

The aim of the project is to demonstrate a more energy-efficient process for steam treatment of seeds for food and seed production. The project is expected to contribute to the transition of the energy system as the solution's treatment equipment can lead to energy savings for several actors in indoor cultivation. The Swedish Energy Agency also believes that the solution has potential for climate benefits as it can lead to less food waste, more natural decontamination of crops and increased harvests.

In the 2000s, Acanova developed ThemoSeed, which is a steam treatment of seeds for food and seeds. The method is state-of-the-art in Scandinavia and is installed in France, Switzerland, the United States and Japan and was in 2020 named the most important innovation during SLU's first 40 years as a university.

Partners include Nordamark AB, which has developed and sells a patented technology for the production of sprouts, shoots and microplants (a fast growing market).

Airwatergreen's air treatment products are based on proprietary patented technology that provides a range of unique benefits. All products have a uniquely low electricity consumption, efficiency even at low temperatures and are very easy to install. In the project, Airwatergreen's Controlled Vapor Pressure (CVP) technology will be used to maintain an optimal moisture level and temperature during seed treatment. This ensures the best quality and efficiency of the process. The CVP technology makes it possible to maintain a stable indoor climate with a uniquely low energy consumption.

"We are very proud of this acknowledgment of energy efficiency that we have received through this award from the Swedish Energy Agency. The collaboration with Acanova AB and Nordamark AB is an exciting step into the rapidly growing market for indoor cultivation where our products and technology can add great value in the form of reduced electricity consumption and simplified operation!", says Bo Tiderman CEO of Airwatergreen.
